Attachment and removal are where most avoidable damage happens — both to the system and to your natural hairline underneath. Doing it right isn't complicated, but skipping steps (especially removal) is where problems start.
Attaching Your System
- Clean the scalp first. Any oil, product residue, or moisture weakens the bond before you even start.
- Apply adhesive tape or liquid bonding agent to the perimeter of the base, following the product's specific instructions for how long to let it become tacky before pressing down.
- Position and press firmly along the entire perimeter, working from the front hairline back, to ensure even contact with no lifted edges.
- Hold pressure for the time specified by your adhesive — usually a minute or two per section — rather than rushing this step.
Removing Your System
This is the step people are most tempted to rush or skip — and it's the one that causes real damage when done wrong.
- Always use a proper adhesive remover, applied along the base perimeter to dissolve the bond gently.
- Never pull the system off directly. Peeling off a system that's still bonded can tear the base material and pull on your natural hair and scalp.
- Work slowly, section by section, reapplying remover as needed rather than forcing any area that hasn't released yet.
DIY vs. Professional Application
Many people self-apply at home once they're comfortable with the process — it just takes a few attempts to get consistent. Others prefer a stylist for the first several applications to learn proper technique, especially for the removal side, where mistakes are more likely to cause damage.
