A hair system is an investment, and how you care for it day to day is what determines whether it lasts three months or a full year. Here's what actually matters — no filler, just what to do and how often.
Daily Care
- Brush gently, from the ends up. Starting at the roots pulls on knots and shortens the life of the base. Use a soft-bristle or wide-tooth brush made for hair systems.
- Avoid unnecessary heat. If your system is human hair, occasional heat styling is fine, but daily heat exposure wears down the hair faster than it would on your natural scalp (since it isn't getting the same natural oils).
Weekly Care
- Wash every 1–2 weeks, or sooner if you notice product buildup or odor. Use a sulfate-free shampoo — regular shampoo can break down the base material and adhesive residue over time.
- Clean the base itself, not just the hair. Adhesive and skin oils build up at the base perimeter and can shorten its lifespan if left unaddressed.
- Condition the hair, not the base. Keep conditioner away from the knots and base attachment area — it can loosen the bond over time.
Between Reattachments
Most attachment methods need to be redone every 2–6 weeks, depending on the adhesive and your skin's natural oil production. Waiting too long between reattachments is one of the most common reasons systems wear out early — lifted edges let in moisture and debris that damage the base from underneath.
Storage
When not worn, store your system on a proper mannequin head or stand — never folded or crumpled in a drawer, which creases the base and can damage the hairline shape permanently.
The Short Version
Gentle daily brushing, washing every 1–2 weeks with the right products, timely reattachment, and proper storage. That's genuinely most of it — the systems that last the longest aren't cared for with anything exotic, just consistently.
